Melamine-based flame retardants work by means of temperature drop and oxygen displacement. In 3 steps, the Melamine decomposes with endothermic reactions, which lowers the temperature. In the last, 3rd, step of decomposition in a fire, nitrogen is formed, which displaces or dilutes the oxygen. The Phosfor in this product also forms a char.
