ICS-540 is a silane modified primairy amine which can be used as a coupling agent in composites and as an adhesion promotor in amine reactive adhesives, coatings and sealers. Through the methoxy-functionality the reactivity of this molecule is relatively high.
In composites the silane binds to mineral fillers such as fiber glass, silicate powders and metal particles. The amine is subsequently available as an anchoring point for crosslinking reaction of, for example, epoxy-groups. Improvements in water resistance and elasticity can be achieved by addition of the component.
A second application is improvement of adhesion on mineral substrates. The silane-group binds to the non-organic layer, while the polymers react with the amine-group. The covalent bond which is created is very strong, which improves adhesion of coatings, sealants and adhesives of amine-reactive formulations.
