Product information

The NABALOX® series are Aluminum Oxides that come in a wide variety of different specifications in order to find applications in the refractory and ceramics industry. Important differences between the different NABALOX® products are chemical purity, grain size distribution, crystallite size and crystal structure. In this regard does the calcination process determine the different Al2O3 content, structure, size and morphology of the primary crystals. The product properties are optimized by grinding, air separation or granulation.

NABALOX® Aluminum Oxides provide a number of advantages like optimized packing density, low sintering temperature, wide sintering range, high sintered densities, flexible processing and optimized flow properties.
Careful laboratory tests, independent from the production of the NABALOX® products self, ensure consistent product quality to meet the required, individual customer specifications. This high amount of quality control ensures not only consistency but advantages over similar products.

Different calcination processes as well as the different post hoc processes result in a range of 38 different NABALOX® products. This wide range of products therefore result in high customer personalization, different areas of applications (like ceramics and refractory products, catalysts, polishing and grinding media, automotive accessories etc.) and very good specialisations.

In case of the calcined alumina oxides of the NABALOX® series the aluminium oxides are calcinated by using tightly controlled temperatures. By controlling the temperature of the calcination process NABALTEC is able to vary the degree of calcination from Svery soft⬝ to Svery hard⬝. This allows for different calcined alumina products with varying properties in Al2O3 content, size of the primary crystals and specific surface areas. Furthermore, NABALTEC is able to reduce the Na2O content below 0,1%. Resulting in four category groups:

Very soft calcined:  grain size (below 0,5 µm), specific surface area (70 90 m²/g), Al2O3 content (5%)
Soft calcined:           grain size (below 0,5 µm), specific surface area (5 12 m²/g), Al2O3 content (70 90 %)
Hard calcined:          grain size (2 µm), specific surface area (0,6 0,9 m²/g), Al2O3 content (95 98%)
Very hard calcined: grain size (3 µm), specific surface area (0,4 0,7 m²/g), Al2O3 content (above 98%)

Some of the NABALOX® products further offer a low Na2O option with less than 0,1%. The regular products from this series have about 0,3%. Products that have a low Na2O content are marked with a RA behind the product number.

Examples are:
No 201 is a very soft calcined product
No 103 is a soft calcined product
No 105 is a hard calcined product
No 105RA is hard calcined product with low Na2O
No 105-71RA is a very hard calcined product with low Na2O
